The race to replace Rep. Mike Hawker in the Hillside area State House District 28 seat is heating up. The two Republican primary candidates, Jennifer Johnston and Ross Bieling, are now trading nasty barbs in their latest batch of radio ads.
Over the last few weeks, Bieling has been running an ad produced by political consultant Art Hackney which claimed Johnston was responsible for a “skyrocketing school budget” and “her transgender activism allowed boys to enter girls’ bathrooms.”
Johnston’s new radio ad, narrated by the raspy voice of long-time Republican legislator Con Bunde, punches back, saying of Bieling “Ross doesn’t care about Alaska, he hasn’t even ever voted in Alaska. Ross recently ran for Congress in Florida, finishing in last place, and now, just like his Florida campaign, Ross is trying to buy his way to power. So far he has put over $100,000 into his negative campaign attacking Jennifer.”
Both Johnston and Bieling still have thousands of dollars in their campaign war chests so don’t bet on this being the last salvo in this fight before the August 16 primary election.
