Thursday night Hillary Clintonâ€™s campaign opened their Alaska caucus campaign headquarters in Anchorage. About 40 people watched as former Lt. Governor Stephen McAlpine, filling in for former Governor Bill Sheffield, spoke to christen the offices.

This rule change is their attempt to have their cake and eat it too. They hope to bolster their candidate recruitment efforts by selling those who might run on the idea they can get full backing of the party and their spot on the ballot while the candidate maintains their strategic distance from the party brand and the baggage that comes along with it.
This summer U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski joined forces with Michigan Congressman Fred Upton to form a lucrative campaign marriage known as a joint fundraising committee. Such committees are designed so two or more candidates can team up for fundraisers, split the costs, and then divide the donations. This is a common practice for congressional candidates across the country, however what is notable about the Murkowski-Upton Victory Committee is that instead of grouping candidates from the same state or geographic region the Murkowski-Upton partnership groups the candidates by economic interest.
