Murkowski Campaign Forms Partnership To Attract Energy Industry Money

This summer U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski joined forces with Michigan Congressman Fred Upton to form a lucrative campaign marriage known as a joint fundraising committee. Such committees are designed so two or more candidates can team up for fundraisers, split the costs, and then divide the donations. This is a common practice for congressional candidates across the country, however what is notable about the Murkowski-Upton Victory Committee is that instead of grouping candidates from the same state or geographic region the Murkowski-Upton partnership groups the candidates by economic interest.

Walker Appoints 2nd Woman To Anchorage Superior Court

As we reported earlier this month, the 17 seat Anchorage Superior Court had become almost entirely male, with 16 men and only 1 woman. That disparity provided good reason to believe Governor Bill Walker would lean towards appointing one of the two female nominees put forward by the Alaska Judicial Council for the seat being vacated by the retiring Judge Michael Spaan.
