Governor Bill Walker’s office this morning issued a press release calling assertions that the state has added 500 jobs since January “misinformation.”
His office says that number is true, but misleading. It is largely accounted for by adjunct professors at the university dropping off the employment rolls in December then coming back on in January. The more apples to apples comparison of gauging the number of state employees over the same period in previous years shows the state is down 1200 employees over this point last year.
The Alaska Support Industry Alliance, and other conservative and business groups had spent much of the last week pushing this 500 employee increase narrative.
