FAIRBANKS–Political journalist Matt Buxton will join The Midnight Sun as its editor and principal content contributor on June 5.
Buxton brings with him six years of experience covering the Alaska Legislature, Congress, elections and public policy for the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. Buxton is well-known for his fair, even-handed approach to politics in print, and on Twitter he has become a go-to resource to easily track the Alaska Legislature.
Buxton has covered hyperlocal news for The Oregonian and the California incarceration system as part of a fellowship with News 21 at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. He graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism-News Editorial from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2010. Buxton grew up in Oregon, sharing time between Bend and Portland. As editor of The Midnight Sun, Buxton plans to continue its respected coverage of state and national politics and expand coverage of local governments and policy analysis. The Midnight Sun will also be looking for additional diverse voices to become regular contributors to the blog.
