The outcome of this race will look nothing like what we would have expected under the old system where political parties had final say in who could appear on the ballot. For the Democrats, that’s good. For the Republicans, that’s bad.

Where choices were once obvious, we have an opportunity to decide between candidates who share common goals and are encouraged to think about the differences without fear of “throwing away” our vote.
