We have waited long enough for real leadership. With the virus’ spread across Alaska, the country, and throughout the world, we cannot wait any longer. Xavier Becerra is the right person at the right time and he deserves the support of ALL senators. To delay his appointment is to prolong our suffering, and put millions of Americans’ lives in jeopardy.
Unions have a name for the kind of willful neglect demonstrated by Governor Dunleavy and his top advisors: contributing to a hostile work environment.
As one of Alaska’s longest-serving state legislators, Kerttula left a lasting legacy.
Including the upcoming November state/federal election, plus a special mayoral election and most likely a runoff and then a regular city-wide election and possible mayoral runoff Anchorage voters could end up with five separate elections in less than six months. We ask our city leaders to consider these factors now, and make voters the priority in this situation by saying “no” to requiring a special election.
I always “vote fish” because to me that means voting for healthy oceans and thriving coastal communities. And I always vote for the person, not a party and my voting record reflects that. In more than 30 years as a radio/print reporter for Alaska’s seafood industry, I have never publicly endorsed a candidate.
Disagreement and discourse about policy and political philosophy is part of a healthy democracy, but any politician willing to flagrantly take on or abandon principles in order to chase a result is simply being dishonest.
And after a blissfully not-at-all-peaceful year for us, Arduin has once again appeared back in Alaska.
“Decisions are being made based on economic and political theories instead of basing them on the realities of everyday Alaskans. What’s the result? Skyrocketing unemployment, an education system that’s hanging on from budget vote to budget vote, and an exodus of a skilled and talented workforce.”
Regardless, let’s consider the implications of promises made by the wave of challengers who beat some of Alaska’s most effective fiscal conservatives.
