Democrats Nominate Candidates to Fill Gruenberg’s Vacancy
The Alaska Democratic Party today announced the three names they are giving Gov. Bill Walker to replace former Rep. Max Gruenberg. Governor Walker will have 30 days from the date of the vacancy to make his appointment. He does not have to choose one of the three candidates nominated by the Democratic Party. His choice will have to be approved by the House Democrats.

Today the House District 16 Democrats and Alaska Democratic Party announced the process and timeline to fill the State House vacancy resulting from Representative Max Gruenberg’s passing.
Governor Mourns Passing Of Rep. Max Gruenberg
Governor Bill Walker and Lt. Governor Byron Mallott today mourned the passing of Representative Max Gruenberg.
“This is a significant loss for all of Alaska,†Governor Walker said. “Max has been a steady and respected voice in the legislature. Donna and I are covering his loved ones with prayer during this very difficult time.â€
Rep. Gruenberg is survived by his wife, Kayla Epstein, his sons and daughter-in-law.
Governor Walker ordered flags to be lowered concurrently for Rep. Gruenberg and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
