The Alaska Democratic Party today announced the three names they are giving Gov. Bill Walker to replace former Rep. Max Gruenberg. Governor Walker will have 30 days from the date of the vacancy to make his appointment. He does not have to choose one of the three candidates nominated by the Democratic Party. His choice will have to be approved by the House Democrats.

Max Gruenberg’s Widow Announces She Is Seeking To Replace Him
Here is a statement from the Alaska Democratic Party detailing how those interested in applying to replace Rep. Max Gruenberg in the state legislature can go about it.
Today the House District 16 Democrats and Alaska Democratic Party announced the process and timeline to fill the State House vacancy resulting from Representative Max Gruenberg’s passing.
Governor Bill Walker and Lt. Governor Byron Mallott today mourned the passing of Representative Max Gruenberg.
“This is a significant loss for all of Alaska,†Governor Walker said. “Max has been a steady and respected voice in the legislature. Donna and I are covering his loved ones with prayer during this very difficult time.â€
Rep. Gruenberg is survived by his wife, Kayla Epstein, his sons and daughter-in-law.
Governor Walker ordered flags to be lowered concurrently for Rep. Gruenberg and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
Don Hadley will be ending his run for East Anchorage Assembly and instead will focus on a bid for the state house seat currently held by Rep. Max Gruenberg.
